MAPPING OF WATER RESOURCES FOR YALA,NZOIA AND SIO BASINS FOR WATER USE PLANNING

The objective of the project is to map out water resources and their potential in Sio basin, Nzoia basin and Yala basin currently and in the future based on growing population and human social and economic activities.
The program is to benefit the department of water for kakamega Bungoma, Vihiga Transnzoia and Busia counties. It involves use of GIS and remote sensing techniques to process satellite images for streams and rivers and development of databases for the respective meta data, collection of boreholes and springs locations using hand held GPS tools and displaying the same on maps for decision support purpose.

PROPOSED BANJA IRRIGATION PROJECT IN MUSENGELI VILLAGE HAMISI SUBCOUNTY VIHIGA COUNTY

The objective of the project is to enhance food security and improve the livelihood of local farmers through sustainable agriculture.
The project target to supply water for drip irrigation for vegetables and fruits for Banja community by abstracting 4,910m3/day. The head works is to being constructed on river Givinjori that has a runoff 18,570.247 m3/day. The scope of the work being supervised include construction of the Head works, sedimentation tank, conveyance system for main, sub main, laterals, and to the drip lines in the beds.
